Welcome to Scarborough Public School - a message from the principal
Scarborough Public School is a small, inclusive school located on the land of the Five Islands Dreaming, nestled between the sea and the escarpment in the northern suburbs of Wollongong. Our beautiful natural surroundings not only inspire learning and wellbeing but foster a strong sense of place and belonging.
We are proud to be a high-performing NSW public school guided by the Department of Education’s Plan for Public Education — committed to equity, excellence and high expectations for every student. With three multi-grade classes, our students benefit from the close attention of an expert and dedicated teaching team, supported by learning support staff and an Assistant Principal Curriculum & Instruction who leads targeted improvement sprints each term to lift teacher capacity and student outcomes.
At Scarborough Public School, students are at the heart of every decision. We are a connected community of learners, where strong relationships and a culture of trust and collaboration allow every student to thrive. Our teaching is purposeful and inclusive, grounded in explicit instruction, meaningful differentiation, and a strengths-based approach that celebrates the individuality of every learner.
We believe that belonging starts early, and we are proud to offer a comprehensive Kindergarten orientation program that gently supports children and families as they transition into school life. Alongside this, our weekly community playgroup meets every Friday from 9:00–10:00am, providing a welcoming space for young children and their families to play, connect and build early relationships with our school community. These early experiences lay the foundation for strong, supportive connections to the people and place that will guide their learning journey.
Scarborough Public School is also deeply embedded in our broader community. Initiatives such as The Fathering Project and our Intergenerational Project — including a treasured partnership with our local nursing home — give students meaningful opportunities to connect across generations, develop empathy, and make a positive impact beyond the classroom.
We take a proactive and innovative approach to attendance, because we know that students need to be at school to get the best from their education. A key part of our wellbeing strategy is Banjo, our much-loved school support dog, who regularly greets students at the gate and supports co-regulation, comfort and connection throughout the day.
To further strengthen engagement, we offer a vibrant range of extra-curricular activities and lunchtime clubs, led by both staff and students. From art, drama, dance and sport to STEM, coding, gardening and wellbeing groups, these activities give students chances to explore their interests, build friendships and feel excited to be at school.
We proudly identify and nurture High Potential and Gifted students across the four domains: intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical. Through personalised learning, enrichment and authentic opportunities, we empower all students to stretch, grow and shine.
Our core values — respect, resilience, safety and empathy — are the foundation of our school culture. These values are explicitly taught and celebrated every day, helping our students grow not just as learners, but as kind, capable and responsible citizens.
Scarborough Public School is a proud pillar of its community and a centre of educational excellence. Our evidence-informed practices, strong community ties and unwavering commitment to student growth ensure that every child has the opportunity to connect, succeed and thrive.
Whether you're joining our school for the first time or continuing your journey with us, we warmly welcome you. We look forward to walking alongside you and your child through this very special part of their learning journey.
