At Scarborough Public School, we are committed to the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, which ensures that students with high potential across all areas of ability are identified, supported and challenged to thrive. The policy recognises that students may demonstrate high potential — and the capacity for gifted performance - in one or more of four domains: intellectual, creative,
emotional and physical.
Our small school setting provides the perfect foundation for an organic, personalised approach to HPGE. With deep, ongoing knowledge of every learner, we design learning programs that are both flexible and dynamic, using responsive grouping and highly individualised planning to meet students where they are - and challenge them to go further.
At the heart of our teaching and learning is a conceptual planning approach, where all key learning areas are connected each term through rich, big-picture concepts.
This approach provides students with authentic, real-world learning experiences and fosters transferable skills and deep knowledge. It is strongly aligned to best-practice research in gifted education, including the work of GERRIC (Gifted Education Research, Resource and Information Centre), which emphasises curriculum compacting, higher-order thinking, and opportunities for students to explore content with depth, complexity and real-world application.
Our HPGE process includes a continuous cycle of assessment, identification, planning, implementation and evaluation, ensuring that all students with potential and giftedness are recognised and extended across all four domains.
Through enrichment, extension, and extra-curricular opportunities, we provide engaging pathways to coach talent, build confidence and develop capabilities that prepare students for high school and life beyond.
Scarborough Public School is proud of the way we champion excellence and equity for every learner. We believe that talent must be nurtured, challenged and celebrated, and we are committed to offering the right opportunities at the right time, for every student.
